Our annual music concert was held last evening and the children did a wonderful job. Led by Mr. Joseph and assisted by Ms. Williams and Mr. Marrero, the ballroom was filled with singing voices, recorders, guitars, keyboards and percussion instruments. Our Kinders, 1st and 2nd graders played rhythm sticks, triangles, and bongos, and our 3rd and 4th graders performed on their recorders. The middle school changed things up this year, playing not only guitars, but accompanying our singers on piano, drums, bass, keyboard and drums. Highlights of this year’s concert included a beautiful solo by 8th grader Hannah S. and a spirited performance by our new drumline. Our 8th graders were introduced at their last ever Highland concert, and they surprised the audience with a dance routine. Two awards were presented to two dedicated students. Nate K, a 7th grader received the Music Award, and Miles J., also a 7th grader, received the Hoenigmann award, our award given to the student who exhibits outstanding character and school spirit. As always, our concert ended with a rousing version of our school song, Highland! Proud and happy families assembled afterwards at Haagen Daaz for our traditional post concert ice cream celebration.
